Description

The Grenada flag is available from Flags Online in full-size and desk formats, printed on both sides and made to last outdoors.

About the Grenada Flag

Bright with red, yellow and green, and dotted with gold stars, the Grenada flag packs a great deal of symbolism into a fairly compact design. A red border runs around the whole flag, enclosing a field divided by golden diagonal lines into two green triangles, at top and bottom, and two yellow triangles, at hoist and fly. A red disc bearing a single gold star sits at the centre where the triangles meet.

Colours and Symbolism

On the Grenada flag, green stands for the island’s fertile vegetation and agriculture, yellow for the warmth of the Caribbean sun and the friendliness of its people, and red for courage and vitality. Seven gold stars appear across the flag in total: six sit along the red border, three above and three below, while the seventh sits in the central disc, and together they represent Grenada’s seven parishes. On the hoist-side green triangle sits a stylised nutmeg pod, a direct reference to the crop that earned Grenada its nickname, the Isle of Spice, and that remains an important export.

History of the Grenada Flag

Before independence, Grenada was a British colony and used a colonial badge on a blue ensign, in keeping with British territorial practice at the time. As Grenada prepared to become an independent nation within the Commonwealth, a new flag was designed to express the island’s own identity rather than its colonial administration. The current design was adopted on 7 February 1974, the day Grenada gained independence from the United Kingdom, and it has remained the national flag through the political upheavals of the following decade without ever being redesigned.

Flying and Displaying the Flag

The Grenada flag is flown throughout the island on government buildings and schools, and it is especially prominent around Independence Day on 7 February each year. Grenadians living abroad also fly it at community and cultural events as a marker of national pride. When displayed, care should be taken to orient the nutmeg correctly on the hoist-side triangle and to keep the central star upright within its disc, since the flag’s detail is easily distorted in low-quality reproductions. It appears widely on cricket grounds and at regional Caribbean gatherings whenever Grenadian teams or delegations take part.

Ordering and Delivery

Order Lead Times

Almost everything we make is freshly printed and made to order, just for you! So please allow 3–5 working days for us to prepare your order before it heads out the door. We’ll always try to get it to you sooner where we can. Some fast movers, like South African flags, ship quicker as they’re often in stock.

One quick thing to keep in mind: the “next working day” you see on your order confirmation is the courier’s delivery time from the day we dispatch — not from the day you place your order. So it’s really 3–5 days to prepare + next-day delivery.

Good things are worth the wait — we’re excited to get your order into your hands.
